How to access grant funding to make your property energy efficient

As part of its commitment to reducing carbon dioxide emissions into the air and ending fuel poverty, the UK Government has made available schemes and grants that can help landlords with properties in the private rental sector get help. If your property needs greener energy saving measures installed and you want to help your tenants to save on bills, now is the time to act.

What criteria must you meet?

If you are a private landlord looking to benefit from the ECO4 scheme, keep in mind that it is the tenant’s circumstances that must meet the qualifying conditions rather than your own. Other than that, your property must demonstrate an energy efficiency rating of E, F or G. Don’t worry if you’re unsure of your property’s rating. A Retrofit Coordinator will be able to carry out this assessment on your behalf, with permission from the occupants of the property.

You cannot get a replacement boiler, central heating system or electric storage heating system under the ECO4 scheme except in special circumstances where the property has never had a central heating system installed.
